Dead Dreams: Book 1 by Emma Right is the first novel in her series, Dead Dreams, presenting readers with an emotional contemporary mystery thrill ride recommended for young adults. Based on the scripture, “What if a man gains the whole world, but loses his soul?” Emma Right draws in readers into the world of Brie, a bright young high school grad with high hopes of college and acting school. Fast paced dialogue opens the door for intrigue when Brie entertains a Craigslist add for a roommate. Now out on her own, Brie is determined to make a way for herself. She’s got everything going for her: a supportive family, bright hopes of acting school and finishing college, all she needs now is a little help paying the rent.
At first all seems well. Her new roommate Sarah has some strange quirks, besides being an heiress to a wealthy coal mining family, Sarah seems okay, but Brie quickly catches Sarah in a lie, yet ignores this red flag and a foreboding gut instinct, quickly dismissing common sense. Family secrets of Sarah’s emerge and things continue to not add up. Brie wonders, “Maybe I made a mistake?” Still Brie, being young and naïve, continues to put blinders on to strange happenings that begin to occur. Brie finds herself walking down a path she did anticipate - one of possible deadly consequences. Come and learn how the narrow path is the only choice and that wealth, status, prominence and status cannot buy eternal life.
In conclusion, Emma Right has done a fantastic job giving readers a fast-paced fiction novel filled with intrigue, mystery, coupled with a theme challenging young adults to consider their current status in regards to their eternal destiny and fulfilling true desire in Jesus Christ as this world’s only answer. A highly recommended read for young adults, especially young teenage girls.
