Measure Once, Read Twice – 2017 Collection by Robert LaBarge reflects his journey in 2017 sharing his spiritual thoughts and what he found to be funny and interesting. Using a variety of styles to include rhyme, free verse, brevity, haiku and prose poems, Robert LaBarge records his book, traveling through the seasons that give readers an easy-to-read and entertaining book of poems.

Beginning in January, and ending in December, this third book by the author speaks on a variety of subjects from faith, family values, God’s creation to hunting season, to politicians, the beauty of Lake Michigan’s shore, and God’s beauty reflected from his abode in Western Michigan. Readers will find encouragement, hope, compassion, humor and awe that reflect God’s creation on Earth, but His creation beyond to God’s sovereign reign over all creation. Many different walks of life can relate to his poems and enjoy them, which are written to encourage Christians.

Created with his author’s notes to better relate to readers what is expressed on paper, Bob LaBarge represents who he is and what he has experienced. As noted by the author, each piece is meant to be read twice, taking from the idea of “measure twice, cut once.” This is the reverse, as he states that a piece most of the time will be more meaningful and better understood if read twice. He also has created this endeavor for most of his work to be read out loud or even sung. He states that there is melody to the words, rather it be a spiritual piece or a humorous poem, both have their own beat. (Almost like music).

Language is amazingly creative and Robert LaBarge makes use of his talents in poetic writing to offer a wide variety of subjects with a Christian perspective to readers that makes for an enjoyable journey. Recommended for those that love reading and writing poems, and those that need encouragement in their faith.
