Pythia by Daniel Spiteri, Senior, begins with action-packed gladiator matches, revealing a Christian Sci-Fi dystopian world set in 1310W (Of Women). This futuristic world is advanced scientifically, yet – norms have been thrown out the window. Females rule, men are considered just above robots, and cloning of human beings is the way of procreation. Yet, Simon Peter, a devout man of God stands firm in his faith, surrounded by the stench of death and blood from the ring where the gladiators fight. Above all, he is on a quest for freedom and the restoration of Pythia to godly standards for all.
From the first gladiatorial fight, the author will keep you wondering where this story is headed. “Matriarchy Forever” is the slogan of the realm and Pythia represents a place of manipulation and control, where men are subservient to women in all areas. One Supreme Leader reigns. Unwavering loyalty to this Supreme Leader is required, she demands a tribute somewhat like a Hitleristic stance and salute, yet with both arms to the side gesturing an “M”.
Group thinking, herd mentality and brutes rule the media, to include government regulatory groups that invade every area of life and social platform. God and His ways are a thing of the past and somehow the world has gone backwards despite all the scientific and medical advances. The world has been turned upside down, on its head. Men have been downgraded, women have risen – and men have few choices, all to only serve women.
Far-fetched, one might ask, but is it? State authority ruled; anything contrary to the state’s control was not available. Complete control of all citizens – including the freedoms of education, religion, marriage, and procreation have been made obsolete in the shadow of human cloning. Is there hope for this civilization? Simon Peter heads the Freedom Fighters to restore freedoms lost.
Full of twists and turns, heart-pounding rivalry, excitement and battles, the main character, Simon Peter fights and regains love that he never thought possible.
This is an imaginative, creative, and interesting adult novel (some sex scenes involved) from an author that reaches deep into the human psyche, bringing forth incentive to not only continue reading his book, but gives a subtle call to get back to God’s ways, since proving in this dystopian realm that man left to himself, or in this case, herself, only brings complete destruction and chaos upon all that is good and pleasurable. The novel leaves one remembering that to not follow God’s natural order of things and people, brings only despair in propagating perverse evil.
Well-done, I would look for more from this author.
