Bruce Snavely writes his gripping autobiography, filled with his accounts from his early childhood living on a large acreage farm in Ohio, to finding himself orphaned. Separated from his brother and sister, he embarks on a search for “home” through the foster care system. His journey to find home again is told in a profound way, as he travels the twists and turns of a life turned upside-down in the foster care maze. Endurance and grit encompass this autobiography, which led to his salvation in Christ. Eventually, he found hope in God, a new family, and wrote this book to offer hope to others - reaching out to them, letting them know that God has not abandoned them. God can restore what was lost! I loved this book!
This is one of those books written by a baby boomer of an era gone by. I could not put this book down, honestly. Heart-breaking, his story is tragic at best; yet, God turns his life around. At the same time, I guess one could say, “Things were different in those days!” Readers will surely find out that is true. There are sections where such actions, custody matters, and domestic violence occurred that would not be tolerated in this day and age.
Beginning at a young age, the author takes readers back to his upbringing with his father and mother, being high school sweethearts, and memories of his youth. His days were filled with adventures, and he thought his days would always be filled with blue skies. Yet, a storm was brewing that affected everything and everyone in his life. Life on the farm was good, until it wasn’t, and as the author reveals a surreal tide of events in his life that were unexpected, to say the least. His writing goes through each year of elementary school, and heads into his teen years, ending in his adult years after accepting Christ. He blends good storytelling with the events of the times during the late 50’s and 60’s that make for a fun read and a very heartwarming read; however, heartbreaking at times. Heading into the decades, the author speaks of the 70’s, his education, eventually falling in love, and having a family of his own.
All the Way Home showcases one man’s life from boyhood to adulthood, and a never-ending search for “family” leading him (and others coincidentally) to an amazing salvation. This is one of those stories that one will never forget! Alongside a new eternal perspective, readers will find memorable, as did I, allowing him to forgive his stepmother, this book showcases God’s handiwork in one man’s life, and a transformed life that ushers in hope! Almost a movie in the making, readers will have the opportunity to see life from an eternal perspective, and they will love insight into the author’s early salvation, and rejoice in a life re-ordered and restored.
This comes as a highly recommended read showcasing the value of home, family, and God’s love and care that remain at the core of human purpose and need.
