Searching for Identity by Rev. Thomas Vent explores the book
of James, intertwining personal testimony and past experience, teaching
believers how to live victoriously from an uncompromising view of God’s Word
and expectations. This is not a strict reprimanding, but rather a book derived
from many years’ experiences as a Christian, pastor, father, husband and
grandfather, as he reflects and contrasts his own life lessons and struggles.
He then compares these life struggles of life in faith and legalism to the
biblical principles found in the book of James. As guidelines, the book of
James is shared with fresh insight and perspective that will teach, exhort and
encourage all who are in faith to understand and grow in the practicality of
the book of James.
Readers will understand the truth
of Scripture while the author profoundly helps readers understand their
identity in Christ and the importance of deepening their faith. With such
chapters as: There Has to Be a Beginning Somewhere; I Thought This Would Be
Easier, Does This New Life Come with Instructions?, Works . . . a Confusing
Dilemma, Reflections and Projections, Who’s Worldly, Who’s Not?, Are You My
Neighbor, Stick Out Your Tongue and Say, “Aaahhh!”, Don’t Blow a Gasket!, An
Evil Root Wrapping around My Heart!, Tempted, Tested, and Timed!, Pull and Keep
Pulling –ALL give a firm understanding of biblical principles at work in
your life through, not only the spiritual war waging around you, but in
you-your reactions to circumstances. Are they godly or unrighteous? These are
time-tested life lessons offering knowledge that will help one understand and
grow in God.
These life lessons and heart reflections share invaluable
life lessons that will challenge readers and increase their faith tremendously.
Traditionally speaking, most remember James as the book on “faith without works
is dead.” Although, as pointed out by the author, there is so much more to the
book of James. Although short, the book of James is packed with solid teaching
that will teach Christians how to live victoriously in an uncompromising
view from God’s expectancy and perspective. This perspective as the author
highlights, is how God desires His children to walk in the light of Christ and
in their God-given identity. Separating oneself from worldliness is not an
option, nor is caring for your neighbor, brother or sister, and acting and
speaking correctly are a must as Ambassadors of the Christian faith. These life
lessons are the essentials to the Christian faith.
With fresh insight and powerful teaching into the book of
James and the Word, the author has penned an important book in this hour
sharing these foundational principles.
Additionally, the author as Reverend, gives credence to
heeding God’s Word as a valuable asset in one’s life. He further reflects many
issues addressed in James that Christians should always practice, such as:
giving to the poor, taming our tongue, favoritism, covetousness, temptation and
trusting God, with advice to not trust in riches.
This is a wonderful book to aid in spiritual growth and to
grasp the practical concepts presented in James that speak of faith, legalism
and life struggles, and how to live a victorious life in Christ.
This book comes as a highly recommended read for every new
believer, and also as a reminder to those who are mature in the faith to
remember God’s beloved, time-tested Word – that is the truth we stand upon,
then to ACT upon it.
