Why Can’t I Teach My Kids to Behave by Joey and Carla
Link offers a biblical and practical guidebook that defines and teaches
obedience to help parents better prepare children for life. Metaphorically, the authors begin this book
on how to prepare for the race of life, in that success is based on obedience. Conversely, a coach training his or her
athlete would expect their trainee to obey their instructions; therefore, the
authors express that parents desire their kids obey us (as their parents) and
inherently this is a part of learning to move forward productively in the game
called “life.”
Parents will learn how to teach their kids to take ownership
of their behaviors and actions. Based
on principles garnered from the Bible, the authors give parents understanding
to the root of their children’s issues and offer a way to help parents
develop healthy parenting tools that will aid in developing obedience in a
child without forcing the issue.
Imagine that . . . not having to scream to get your kids to obey! With funny and witty examples, the issues
and dilemmas are presented with unbiased details, (which might sound all too
familiar) that offer solutions to parents, giving them the right tools to use
in training up a child in a biblical fashion. It doesn’t matter what age your
children are - this guidebook can assist you in every season of parenting with
the development of children into adulthood.
With well-rounded chapters such as: Why Can’t I Get My
Kids to Behave, What Obedience is, The Parenting Toolbox, What Obedience is
Not, First Things First, Keep Plugging Away, Do Compliant Kids Exist, Don’t Use
This Toolbox, It’s Not Too Late ~ readers gain new perspective, and learn
that true obedience is in the attitude.
This book is an excellent way to show parents the parenting do’s and
don’ts that will not only encourage and inspire, but gives challenging and
foundational instruction to develop well behaved children, meanwhile allowing
parents to choose which avenue best relates to their children and particular
situation.
Additionally, the author offers an understanding of the role
of parent, the role of the child and how obedience, love, trust and
understanding are key to any relationship; this is a wonderful and practical
read for parents who desire a biblically based instructional guide to help make
peace at home, that will also additionally give the framework for a godly
foundation to teach, instruct and admonish a child so that the end result is a
happy, healthy parent/child relationship.
As husband and wife, these two authors have written a
much-needed book that addresses some of the behaviors children can have, instructing
parents on “how to” deal with these behaviors in a godly, loving way. A must-read for all parents, Christian or
non-Christian, as these values, lessons and practical biblical advice can be
passed down from generation to generation.
A highly recommended read!
